Frequently Asked Questions
How do I make an appointment?
It's really easy! You can contact me by email or phone, you'll find the details on the Contacts page. I will get back to you within 24 hours and we can arrange to have a short telephone call to discuss what has brought you to counselling at this point. There is no charge for this phone call. NB If you contact by email, please check your spam folder as sometimes emails divert there
How much does it cost and how do I pay?
Counselling sessions are 50 minutes and the fee is £50 per session. This should be paid 24 hours beforehand by bank transfer (I'll give you the details when we decide to work together) or in cash on the day.
What are your opening hours?
I have client appointments on weekdays between 10 am and 7 pm and these can be face-to-face, online or phone. Occasionally Saturday appointments are available for those who are unable to attend during the week.
How many sessions will I need?
Honest answer? I don't know! Everyone is different but I recommend clients attend for 6 sessions so that they can begin to see real improvement in their situation. I schedule regular reviews so together we can reflect on progress and decide what areas of your life to focus on in future work.
Where is your counselling room?
My office is within Bury St Edmunds. There is parking adjacent plus nearby bus stops. I'll give you directions once we have arranged to meet.
Online sessions can be convenient if you live further afield, as we can connect wherever you are, as long as you have wifi. I use a secure on-line platform to ensure your privacy.
Does your room have disabled access?
My counselling room is on the ground floor with small steps to access. If you require disabled access we can meet at another location which is more suitable, or either online or by phone. Why not give me a call and we can discuss this.
What happens at my first sesion?
Your first session an opportunity for you to hear about how I work and for me to hear something about what has brought you into counselling. It will last up to 50 minutes. There will be a little paperwork to complete and I will hear more about your story.
Is everything I tell you kept confidential?
Confidentiality is key to the counselling relationship but there are limits to this which I will discuss with you when we meet.
What do I do if I have a complaint?
If you are unhappy about any aspect of your counselling experience, in the first instance please speak to me. If that does not resolve the matter you can make a complaint to ACC whose Complaints Procedure can be found on their website.
If I you would like to ask something else about Susan Finnie Counselling, please get in touch.
